Shipping Business Systems
Through our professional consultancy section we are able to help companies leverage maximum value out of their existing or proposed systems. We will help you maximise the benefits from your systems’ assets in the commercial shipping area. We know the industry and where value can be found.
We have worked with our clients to unlock the benefits tied up in an enterprise system by using that system to drive out performance measurements and KPIs. We have a great deal of experience in the key areas increasingly coming under the microscope today. Some of the areas where we are ready to help are summarised below – please contact us for more information.
Time Charter Performance
Without the right systems and processes in place the continual assessment of actual ship performance during a voyage is labour intensive and error-prone. We have helped clients instigate automated procedures to immediately compare the actual ship performance against the performance guaranteed by the owner as part of the Time Charter deal i.e. bunker consumption and speed differentials. The process will not only substantially increase the awareness of potential claims against owners but can drive more realistic ranges of speeds to be guaranteed in new TC deals.
Agency Data Exchange
Thousands of port calls a year presents significant challenges to the good management of costs and operations. We can help you establish a hub system whereby transactions between you and your local/ hub agents are processed system-to-system via XML documents i.e. agency appointments, port events, statement of facts, disbursements, advances, template port costs, etc. Besides the obvious significant reduction in manual handling and entry of these transactions other substantial benefits are realised: accurate port cost estimates for charterers planning voyages, automated scrutiny of disbursements with significant cost differences highlighted, full transparency of costs can lead to renegotiated costs with the agents, automated advice of cost increases, etc
Emissions, Economical Steaming, Deemed Arrival
The office system should work hand-in-hand with a comprehensive shipboard version where daily positions, consumptions, events, etc are captured and fed back to the office. With the right tools in place you can now have total visibility of ship emissions on a voyage by voyage basis. You can also easily rate the performance of your ships based on rewarding criteria e.g. grammes-per-tonne-mile now regarded as key in the current climate in assessing the commercial value of a voyage. Your system should be a key component in driving decisions on ship emissions through economical steaming, etc and helping support the upcoming Deemed Arrival initiative that is fast gaining credence in the shipping industry.
